The Jr. NBA Basketball England League is an exciting partnership between the National Basketball League (NBA) and Basketball England (BE), creating a competitive league for boys and girls aged 11-12.
The Jr.NBA Basketball England League features 30 schools that will be branded by a NBA team, competing in an 8-game season and culminating in a single game elimination playoffs to determine the Jr.NBA Basketball England League champions. The Jr.NBA Basketball England League format will mirror the NBA including a virtual Draft, Conference finals and a Jr. NBA final.
The objective of the League is to leverage the excitement of the NBA and BE brands to inspire and engage more young people to participate in basketball by having a fun, positive first experience with the game. The League will also promote common NBA and BE values as well as encouraging physical activity and healthy living.
During the 2016-17 academic year there are four Jr.NBA Basketball England Leagues in operation, they are:
– London (mixed)
– London (girls only)
– Manchester (mixed)
– Birmingham (mixed)
It is hoped that the success of the initiative will allow for further leagues to be developed in other UK cities in the future.
